To assign an existing expense account to a tax line in QuickBooks, open the “Chart of Accounts” menu and highlight the appropriate expense account. Right-click over the name of the account with your mouse and select “Edit Account.” Then choose the option to adjust the “Tax-Line Mapping” information from the menu that appears. Use the following drop-down menus to choose the appropriate tax form and tax line. The most common type of 1099 form is Form 1099-MISC, which is used to report payments made to individuals for services such as wages, tips, Medicaid, and Medicare. Each type of form has its own specific requirements for filing, so it’s important to be familiar with the different forms in order to correctly file your taxes.
If you have any mapping already set, it will show you the accounts being mapped. If you need to add more accounts to the mapping, just click on the drop down and choose the additional accounts you want. A single account can only be used for each form.

All the vendors you have designated as eligible to receive 1099’s will be listed. The only difference for 2020 will be to separate the vendors into two filing types the NEC (non-employee compensation) and MISC. By doing so, the account mapping in the QuickBooks file will have to be updated for your 1099 report to remain accurate.

This option allows you to reduce or increase the print’s size by 1/100th inch. These steps will allow you to print the IRS Form 1099 Quickbooks easily. You have an expense account where you track the payments made to independent contractors. Let’s call this account “Contractor’s Expense Account”. Now moving to this step, the user will have to tell QuickBooks where the amount paid from each account will appear in the form. In order to map accounts or omit payment from 1099 MISC forms, the user will have to select from the Apply payments to the 1099 box drop-down list.
Filing 1099s is indispensable when the user makes payments to contractors in different forms like cash, direct deposit, and checks. The 1099-NEC is specifically for reporting nonemployee compensation, whereas many other types of compensation can be reported on the 1099-MISC. Once done, you can repeat the same procedure for other vendors. Make sure these vendors should be eligible for 1099.
